Case Studies
Below are a series of case studies to give an understanding of the quality and thoroughness of ISSL. Please note that some information has been omitted or altered in the interests of maintaining our clients and associates security.
Intelligence Gathering and Information Management
The results of an investigation on behalf of a Central Asian Government was the start of an on-going project to keep track of a group of individuals involved in what became a series of fraudulent activities. This information has resulted in ISSL having a large rolling database of commercial intelligence about the many other frauds this group has perpetrated, together with all their key associates and connections. This valuable information has been accessed by institutions that fear substantial financial loss and reputational damage as a result of being targeted by this group. The principle of this type of data collection and analysis gave rise to the intellectual idea for the Terror-Ident™ database.
Defence Against Piracy (DAP)
Due to the high increase in piracy in the Gulf of Aden and Somali Basin ISSL has been heavily engaged providing advice in vessel hardening, undertaking crew training and deploying security teams aboard vessels transiting the Gulf of Aden and upper Indian Ocean.
We keep an up to date plot of all incidents of both successful and attempted piracy and use this to advise the commercial shipping industry as to the developing risk. For instance in recent months we have advised that the piracy foot print has extended from an original eastern boundary of 65 E longitude to in excess of 71E longitude. Vessel owners and managers have had to re-evaluate their risks and have asked ISSL for advice.
As result of the many transits we have successfully completed in the last year it has become apparent that the sight of a properly harded vessel with an ISSL security crew has deterred pirates. On one occasion when pirates did attack an ISSL manned vessel, they were repelled.
Recoveries Projects - Telecommunications Company
A telecommunications company operating within CARICOM suffered a large loss through two fraudulent wire transfers. ISSL were asked to investigate the crime and to see if it could ascertain internal collusion, which is one of the requirements that would enable the company to claim on its Commercial Crime insurance.
ISSL investigated the fraud and verified that there had indeed been internal collusion. The results of our investigation were used as the justification for the insurers to pay the PI claim. We were able to trace the stolen funds and the Client initiated legal action to have the money returned. ISSL has recently been requested to help in the preparation of a employment case against the employees identified as having been involved in the fraud.

Close Protection Team
A high net worth Principle wanted protection for himself and family on a 27/7 basis. The Team has to cover both the Principle and his family which includes a wife, an ex wife, children and parents who lived in different parts of his home country. We have selected, trained and deployed a locally manned CP Team lead by three ISSL ex UK Special Force specialists. This allows the required level of armed protection and gives the flexibility to support the Principle in his global travels.
Security Project Management
ISSL are advising in the design, construction, and project management and when completed will be responsibility for the security management of a site that will be occupied by tenants that supply confidential data services to both commercial and government clients. The design specification developed by ISSL will allow individual tenants to have different levels of security dependent on their own and their Clients needs, but within an overall high level security envelope.
Lloyds' - Financial Institutions
A financial institution selling wealth products through both Tied Agents and Individual Financial Advisors (IFA’s) wanted to renew their annual Financial Institutions insurance. The Underwriter’s were concerned that they may become exposed as a result of a potential lack of controls and breach of procedures set by government authorities. The Underwriter instructed ISSL to conduct a Risk Analysis survey, where the main objective was to report on the institutions compliance, management, processes and the checks and balances that were in place. There was also a requirement to censure that the procedures were being enforced in a rigorous manner.
The survey ensured that the institution received the cover it required and gave the Underwriter reassurance by providing a detailed understanding of the risk and that the implementation of ISSL’s recommendations would negate the chance of a claim.
